FDA approves drug combo to treat hypertension

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved Takeda Pharmaceutical Company's hypertension treatment Edarbyclor (azilsartan medoxomil and chlorthalidone). The drug is a fixed-dose therapy that combimes an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) with the diuretic chlorthalidone in a once-daily, single tablet.

Takeda submitted the new drug application in February 2011.
