The Department of Health and Human Services has released the first list of organizations to participate in the Pioneer Accountable Care Organization model. The agency named 32 organizations out of 80 applicants to participate in the program, starting on Jan. 1.
The ACO model will test different payment methods aimed at improving patient care and outcomes at a lower cost. HHS estimates the project could save up to $1.1 billion over five years. The Pioneer ACO Model was designed specifically for organizations with experience offering coordinated, patient-centered care, and operating in ACO-like arrangements.
