CMS proposes retracting signature requirement on lab requisitions

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services has proposed retracting the new rule that requires the signature of a physician or qualified non- physician practitioner on a requisition for clinical diagnostic laboratory tests paid under the clinical laboratory fee schedule. This proposal would reinstate the prior  policy that the signature of a physician or qualified non-physician  practitioner is not required on a requisition for Medicare purposes for  a clinical diagnostic laboratory test paid under the CLFS.

CMS is accepting comments on this proposal. Comments must be received, no later than 5 p.m. eastern daylight  time on Aug. 29.
