Health care spending in the United States is expected to grow at an average annual rate of 5.8% through 2022, economists and actuaries from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services reported online in the journal Health Affairs. According to the report, health spending growth through 2013 will grow at 4%. An improving economy, combined with the coverage expansions in the Affordable Care Act and an aging population, will drive faster projected growth in health spending in 2014 and beyond, according to the report.

In July, a report by the Health Research Institute, part of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP showed that health care inflation in the United States is expected to drop 6.5% in 2014, reaching a historic low.
