President Donald Trump announced on May 4 that he will nominate a former DaVita executive as Assistant Secretary of Health and Human Services for Legislation. Matthew Bassett worked for DaVita from 2006 to 2011, and left the company as Vice President of State Public Policy. Currently he serves on the board of directors for the Access Tennessee Health Insurance Pool

“We applaud the Administration for picking someone who can move so nimbly between the public and private sector,” Bill Myers, Vice President for Marketing and Communications at DaVita Inc. told NN&I in a written statement. “This is what America needs.”

Prior to working at DaVita, Basset served as Chief of Staff for the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services, and as deputy Chief of Staff for former Representative Ernie Fletcher, R-Ky.
