For the second year, the National Renal Administrators Association is offering a physician track at its annual meeting. New in 2013, organizers have added the Medical Director Workshop and Nephrology Symposium for physicians. A special panel will include experts in nephrology, such as Allan Collins, MD, Richard Glassock, MD, Steven Guest, MD, Raymond Hakim, MD, Doug Johnson, MD, Brigitte Schiller, MD, Leanna B. Tyshler, MD, and Diane Wish, RN, MBA. The workshop takes place on Wednesday, Sept. 25, from 8 am to 4 pm.

The symposium is a continuation of a dialogue that began this past March. “This unique opportunity brings colleagues and industry experts together to discuss improving patient care, U.S. Renal Data System trends, and key findings at an open forum for providers to share best practices,” the NRAA said.

Chief medical officers of 14 major dialysis providers convened a meeting in Chicago. Physicians Tom Parker (Renal Ventures Management), Johnson (Dialysis Clinic Inc.) and Allen Nissenson (DaVita) initiated the meeting, which aimed to share programs and processes that various providers are using to enhance patient outcomes.

The NRAA symposium will include discussions about reducing hospitalizations, improving volume control, increasing the PD patient population, nutritional management and sodium modeling, and CKD education.
